A Radiant Octagonal Frame in Guilloché Enamel by Franco Salimbeni
This exceptional octagonal frame is a masterclass in contemporary Italian craftsmanship, where the ancient art of guilloché enamel meets bold, modern form. Designed by Franco Salimbeni in 1992, the piece is executed in gold-plated sterling silver, its facets adorned with mesmerizing, translucent fired enamels that dance over the intricate engraved ground.
The frame’s substantial presence and flawless finish are a direct result of its heroic construction. Artisans at the historic Salimbeni factory employed high-thickness silver plate and significant internal reinforcements—a technical prerequisite for surviving the successive 800° Celsius firings required to achieve such luminous, jewel-like depth of color without compromise. This is object-making at its most technically audacious.
Within, a luxurious blue Alcantara® panel provides a soft, textural contrast to the frame’s metallic brilliance, elegantly securing a round photograph.
