Unique Mid-Century Modern Porter Blanchard sterling silver and Lucite handle flatware set. This set includes:
7 knives, 8 1/4"
9 dinner forks, 8 1/4" (one has cracks in Lucite)
7 salad forks, 6 1/2"
8 teaspoons, 6 3/8"
4 hollow handle butter spreaders w/stainless blades, 6 1/4"
Plus:
8 fruit knives (round handles, not square), 7", unmarked, maker unknown
Includes bonus brand new storage chest - styles vary.
Good overall condition, with some surface scratches, as expected with age. No monograms. Note: the sizes vary on each - the Lucite differs slightly and sizes vary in length by approx. .5".
This set will be lightly polished and sealed in individual plastic sleeves prior to shipping. Unusual!
Porter Blanchard taught his son-in-law and renowned designer Allan Adler (the silversmith to the stars) the craft of silversmithing and was the one of the founders of the Arts
Crafts movement in California, after moving from Boston where 5 generations had been in silversmithing. Blanchard bridged the Arts and Crafts and Modern movements. Blanchard's exploration into progressive design began with the silver he exhibited at the 1928 Exhibition of the Decorative Arts at the National Arts Club in New York.
