Exquisite Antique Chinese Silver
Copper Decorative Vessel with Dragon and Mythical Beast Motifs – Xuande Mark
An outstanding example of antique Chinese silver and copper craftsmanship, this decorative vessel displays exceptional artistry and intricate detail. Weighing approximately 1230 g and measuring 14.5 cm in height (15.5 cm across with handles), it is richly decorated and in beautifully preserved condition.
The vessel rests on curved feet with lion masks and clawed paws, supporting a spherical body adorned with mythical animals, rocaille scrolls, floral tendrils, and ornate cartouches. The side-mounted dragon handles and nine mythical beast reliefs add layers of symbolic meaning, representing strength, protection, and prosperity.
The domed, pierced cover is surmounted by a magnificent pair of writhing dragons chasing the flaming pearl, a timeless Chinese motif symbolising wisdom, power, and spiritual energy. Finely pressed, cast, and chased, the decoration includes peacocks among blossoms, further enhancing the visual richness. The vessel is signed with a six-character Xuande mark to the base, affirming its classical inspiration.
This rare and highly collectable piece, topped with a dragon-lion knop, exemplifies the pinnacle of traditional Chinese silversmithing. A superb acquisition for connoisseurs of Chinese antiques, imperial decorative arts, and Asian silverware, it makes a commanding statement in any high-end collection or interior.
