A rare pair of George I Britannia Standard Silver (.958 fine) Hanoverian ‘Rat-Tail’ tablespoons.
The underside of the bowls showing a 'rat tail' heel, the stem stamped with London hallmarks with date letter for 1719, maker’s marks rubbed.
(Britannia Standard Silver has a silver content of .958 parts pure silver which is greater than sterling silver which has a silver content of .925 parts pure silver.
The Britannia Standard was put into effect in by an Act of British Parliament in 1697 and lasted until 1720 as part of the re-coining effort put into place by William III).
