Very Large Antique Georgian Caucasian Drinking Horn - 19th Century Silver-Mounted Khantsi with Stand, Rare Decorative Wine Vessel
An exceptional antique Georgian/Caucasian drinking horn (Khantsi), dating to the late 19th century (circa 1890s), beautifully mounted with ornate silver and metalwork decorations and complete with its original stand.
This rare ceremonial vessel, traditionally used in the Caucasus for drinking wine at weddings, feasts, and important gatherings, is crafted from natural cow horn with rich patina and mounted with finely detailed chased silver bands, chain, and decorative fittings. The lid is surmounted by a striking finial of a lion with raised paw, a powerful symbol of strength and prestige. The stand, embellished with repoussé and cast ornament, provides both elegance and stability, transforming the horn into an impressive display piece.
Drinking horns, or rhyta, have roots stretching back to antiquity, and this example reflects the enduring cultural significance of wine and celebration in Georgian tradition.
