About the Item
A Stunning Silver Mezuzah Case made by Henryk Winograd in New York, 1984.
Henryk Winograd (1916-2008) was a master silversmith who created beautiful mezuzah cases. He immigrated to the United States from his native Poland in 1972 and began work as a master silversmith and jeweler. He created high-relief designs by hammering pure .999 silver into intricate molds. He created many mezuzahs throughout his career.
The reliefs fashioned in this Mezuzah case are truly amazing and a testament to the skill and craftsmanship that Winograd used when creating his religious works.
Bordered with beautiful stylized fleur-de-lis designs chased in a foliate form adorn the top, side, and lower borders of this case. At the center, a fearsome chased rampant lion is displayed clutching the tablets of the law in his paws which are set on a foliate-bordered background all mounted atop a majestic platform. Two loops are built into its tapered tips for hanging purposes in a person's home.
Signed by the artist on reverse, and marked at the side of the case.
