About the Item

A finely crafted sterling silver bread basket by Dominick Haff, of oval form with delicately decorated sides, measuring approximately 13 inches long by 9 inches wide. This elegant serving piece exemplifies the firm’s mastery of late 19th- to early 20th-century American decorative silverwork. The border is richly adorned with a continuous garland motif, featuring swags of laurel and ribbon interspersed with floral accents, all executed in crisp repoussé and chased detail. The decoration follows the undulating rim, enhancing the basket’s graceful outline and adding a touch of classical refinement. The interior well is smoothly finished, with a subtle scalloped contour that reflects the border’s rhythm. At the center is a finely hand-engraved monogram, delicately executed in flowing script, attesting to the piece’s bespoke craftsmanship and original presentation as a luxury household item. Marks: Stamped on the underside with DOMINICK HAFF, STERLING, and the maker’s hallmark, along with appropriate pattern or inventory numbers.
