About the Item

These sterling silver candlesticks by Gorham Silversmiths are a refined exercise in classical restraint—clean, architectural, and impeccably balanced, proving that Gorham didn’t need ornament to make a statement. Each candlestick is built around a fluted columnar shaft, tall and slender, with crisp vertical channels that draw the eye upward in one uninterrupted line. The fluting adds texture and light play without excess, giving the pieces a dignified presence that feels equally at home on a formal dining table or a traditional mantel. The candle cups are understated and slightly flared, designed to hold standard tapers securely while keeping the overall silhouette clean and uncluttered. Just below the cup, a subtle circular medallion detail provides a quiet decorative pause—a small nod to classical design without drifting into ornament for ornament’s sake. The candlesticks rest on broad, stepped circular bases, weighted for stability and proportioned to anchor the tall shafts confidently. The smooth, polished surface of the base contrasts beautifully with the fluted column above, reinforcing the balance between strength and elegance. These are candlesticks that stand straight, behave properly, and don’t ask for attention—exactly as they should. The underside bears Gorham’s hallmark—anchor flanked by symbols, “STERLING,” and model number A2561—a reassuring stamp from one of America’s most respected silversmiths. Gorham sterling was made to be used, polished, and passed down, not rotated out with the season’s décor trends. In today’s world of disposable accents and faux finishes, these candlesticks feel refreshingly honest. No scrolls, no flourishes, no excuses—just sterling silver, classical proportions, and the quiet confidence of craftsmanship done right. Candles may flicker, but good design never goes out of style.
