About the Item
Being offered is an antique sterling-silver-topped crystal shaker, likely intended for sugar, pepper, or another fine condiment. Its proportions and decorative style are consistent with 20th-century Birks tableware, known for combining heavy cut crystal with finely finished sterling tops.
The body is made of clear, high-quality cut crystal with a rounded, bulbous form that narrows slightly toward the neck and the base.
The hand-cut decoration features:
Floral motifs, including deeply etched flowers with radiating petals.
Oval cartouche-style panels, each containing a smaller engraved flower.
Vertical leaf-like cuts that create a repeating, symmetrical rhythm around the piece.
A garland or wreath band encircling the upper area, composed of small linked blossoms.
The crystal is thick and refracts light strongly, giving it a bright, faceted appearance.
The top is made of high-polished sterling silver, smooth and domed, with a rounded silhouette typical of Birks’ mid-century silverwork.
The shiny surface creates strong reflections; in the image it reflects the room and the person taking the photo (not identified, per safety policy).
The cap likely screws on, as was standard for Birks condiment shakers.
