About the Item
This pair of sterling silver salt shakers by Redlich is a textbook example of why Early American forms never lose their footing—because they were right the first time.
Modeled after 18th-century Colonial silver, these shakers feature a classic baluster-form body rising from three sturdy cabriole-style feet, giving them both lift and visual authority. The proportions are spot on: broad and grounded at the base, gently tapering upward to pierced dome tops capped with turned finials. Nothing flashy, nothing fussy—just honest, well-bred design.
The pierced lids are thoughtfully executed, combining simple round perforations with engraved lattice panels. It’s decorative, yes, but also practical—seasoning flows evenly, as it should. The lids seat cleanly into the bodies, and the shakers have a satisfying weight in the hand, a quiet reminder that this is solid sterling, not a lightweight imitation.
Each shaker is clearly marked on the underside with the Redlich hallmark, “STERLING”, the maker’s reference number, and the designation “EARLY AMERICAN REPRODUCTION.” Redlich was known for producing faithful recreations of historic American silver, and these shakers deliver exactly that: reverence for the past without pretending to be antiques.
On the table, they read as timeless—equally at home beside blue-and-white china, a formal Shabbat setting, or a traditional dining table that appreciates things made the old way. They don’t shout for attention, but they’re always noticed—like good manners or a well-cut jacket.
A handsome, historically grounded pair of Redlich sterling salt shakers, made to be used daily and admired quietly… which, frankly, is how proper silver prefers it.
