About the Item

Stylish cylindrical silver canister with inset tiger's eye top, hand-chased silver body and gilded interior. The canister is hallmarked Birmingham 1973, has maker's marks for Mappin and Webb, and was originally used for cigarettes. Dimensions: 9.5cm/ 3¾ inches (height) x 6.5cm/ 2⅝ inches (diameter). Tiger's Eye is a member of the quartz family of rocks that polishes to a glossy lustre and has a holographic quality. This gemstone is great for decorative pieces due to the fact that it is relatively hard. The colouration of Tiger's Eye typically includes strips, lines and veins of colour in beautiful shades of honey, rich yellow and golden brown. Mappin Webb have been silversmiths to all of the United Kingdom’s sovereigns since 1897. Bentleys are Members of LAPADA, the London and Provincial Antique Dealers Association.
