About the Item
This impressive sterling silver trumpet-form vase stands a full 21 inches tall, exhibiting the clean, balanced proportions characteristic of early 20th-century American silver design. The body rises in a straight, tapering form from a plain, circular foot that is entirely undecorated, emphasizing the elegant simplicity of the piece.
At the top, the vase terminates in a flaring scalloped rim, its gentle outward sweep providing a graceful contrast to the otherwise linear silhouette. On opposing sides of the upper body, there are two decorative cartouches, each framed with scrolling, etched foliate designs. Both cartouches remain vacant, with no monogram or engraving, preserving the vase’s refined symmetry and understated sophistication.
The underside is appropriately marked for Frank Smith Silver Co., and also bears the retailer’s stamp, “Bailey, Banks
Biddle,” indicating that the vase was manufactured by Smith and sold through the prestigious Philadelphia jeweler.
A fine example of American sterling craftsmanship, this vase combines restrained classical form with subtle decorative detailing, making it suitable both as a display piece and as an elegant vessel for floral arrangements.
