Unique Georgian Sterling Tureen, c1802

Circa 1950s, Sterling, by C.C. Hermann, Copenhagen, Denmark. Hand hammered, this fabulous covered tureen is an early example of the CC Hermann silversmithy (1949-1992). Displaying a serene form and generous size, it is both functional and decorative, perfect for an understated table setting. Very good condition, with a monogram on the underside noted. A magnificent, fine and impressive, rare antique George IV English sterling silver soup tureen assayed in York; an addition to our dining silverware collection. This magnificent antique George IV English sterling silver soup tureen has an oval rounded form. The lower portion of the body is encompassed with impressive chased fluted decoration in a subtle swirl design. The decoration to the body incorporates an impressive scrolling leaf bordered cartouche to either side, each displaying an exceptional contemporary bright cut engraved marital coat of arms* depicting on the dexter a chevron between three crosses paty and the sinister a quadrangular castle. The coat of arms is surmounted with a bright cut engraved crest displaying a tent adorned or lined charged in the interior with a cross paty of the third. A very fine impressively large silver plated soup tureen by Elkington Company of London with a capacity to hold 4 quarts. The substantial oval body having open handles, richly decorated with embossed engraved foliate motifs centered by blank foliate cartouches, the conforming lid bearing engraved heraldic crests. Raised overall upon a stepped oval foot, with the underside bearing impressed factory marks for Elkington Co., together with date letter for 1884. In extremely good overall condition, and priced competitively in comparison to similar examples in the marketplace. ELKINGTON COMPANY: George Richards Elkington Henry Elkington were the first to discover and patent the silver plating process in the 1830's. They were subsequently awarded Royal warrants to several members of the British Royal Family including Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, Queen Mary King George VI. A fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver soup tureen; an addition to our silver dining collection This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver soup tureen has a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval domed spreading foot. The surface of this piece is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest of on a chapeau turned up a lion rampant supporting an arrow palewise feathered and headed to one side. This antique silver soup tureen retains the original hallmarked push fit cover, surmounted with the original hallmarked detachable shaped scrolling handle with acanthus leaf decoration. The antique silver soup tureen is fitted with thread decorated loop handles with acanthus leaf terminals. Condition This antique silver soup tureen is an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. This piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body have wear in keeping with age and location, but all remain legible. The part hallmarks to the cover handle are all clear.  Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Edwardian silverware.
