About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive set of vintage Elizabeth II English parcel gilt sterling silver four light candelabra; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. These exceptional vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver candelabra have a cylindrical form with figural columns. Each impressive candelabrum is fitted with three arched labra (arms) and a central elevated column, supporting hallmarked push fit circular flared capitals. The capitals are encircled with a tapering fluted design, accented with the parcel gilding. The impressive columns are ornamented with cast sterling silver gilt figures depicting out of a tower a crowned, rampant lion holding a royal coronet in one paw and a heraldic shield to the other. This exceptional column surmounts an impressive domed spreading bases, reflecting the same design as the underside of each capital. The underside of each candelabrum base features minimal weighting, due to the exceptional gauge of silver. NOTE: This limited edition pattern of 250 items was crafted to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The crowned lion is displayed within the United Kingdom coat of arms as the royal and national symbol of England. This figure which holds St. Edward's Crown (the Coronation Crown) and shield bearing a cross and five martlets: the arms of St. Edward. This set of four consists of limited edition numbers: 118, 141, 142 and 163. Condition These vintage four light candelabra are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The gilding is crisp and the cast ornamentation is sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each base, in addition to part hallmarks to each capital are very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from this exceptional set of 3 arm candelabra in sterling silver. An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of versatile antique English sterling silver three-light candelabra; an addition to our diverse candle holders collection. These exceptional antique cast sterling silver candelabra have a classical square form to a knopped column onto a stepped swept square foot, in the highly desirable classic English style. Each impressive three light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling leaf decorated arms. The branches (labra) support two circular waisted capitals, each encompassed with bands of applied gadroon decoration. The capitals are fitted with the original hallmarked push fit square-shaped sconces, embellished with an undulating swept decoration. Each capital of these antique candelabra centrepieces surmounts an impressive square drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces. Each Victorian candelabrum is fitted with a third detachable central elevated capital and drip pan. These versatile three-light Victorian candelabra can be used as silver candlesticks once the arms are detached. The panelled waisted column of each candlestick is encompassed with further undulating ornamentation and gadroon decoration to the knops. The spiralling swept portion of the foot surmounts a plain stepped base, embellished with gadroon decoration to a plain collet style rim. These antique silver candlesticks do not have weighted bases. The base of each candlestick was made by William Brown in 1825 and the labra were crafted by Walker Tolhurst Ltd (Walter Walker Brownfield Tolhurst) in 1896*. These tall sterling silver candelabra, which can be separated into individual candlesticks, are a versatile and sophisticated gift for weddings, anniversaries or milestone occasions. Use them as dramatic centrepieces for candlelit dinners or display the candlesticks individually on a mantel, sideboard or table. * Candlesticks were widely produced and used in the early 19th century, with designs growing more elaborate as moulded candles gained popularity. To accommodate changing tastes, it was not unusual for matching candelabra to be commissioned at a later date, providing versatility and reflecting the Victorian preference for elaborate centrepieces.
