A rare and spectacularly designed and executed set of hand-wrought and carved silver and rosewood Aztec pattern flatware by Hector Aguilar. Comprised of four place settings, with seven pieces per place setting, each setting containing a salad fork, dinner fork, dinner knife, dinner spoon, tea/coffee spoon, demitasse spoon, and butter knife. In addition this set includes a 2 piece salad service, 2 piece carving service, bread knife, soup ladle, cheese knife, and sugar spoon. Each piece is composed of a solid silver shaped utensil mounted to a beautifully carved arched rosewood handle set into a split and spiraling Aztec shaped silver tail with decorative etched line motifs and sphere details. circa 1940s. Stamp: Each piece is hallmarked, marked with a Hector Aguilar hallmark of HA used between 1940 and 1962. Taxco Mexico Sterling, and stamped with Mexican Eagle, the use of which was decreed under the Governmental-guaranteed National Syndicate of Silversmiths, that required all silver for export bear the national hall-mark, a small eagle. The use of this hall-mark is restricted solely to those firms which are willing to give bonded guarantee not to use silver less than 925 thousandths fine or better. This mark presumes an alloy equal to or better than legal sterling. This wonderful set has been recently exhibited in the Vida y Diseno 125 anos del diseno industrial en Mexico exhibit at the Palacio de Cultaral Banamex, Mexico D. F. (Nov 2009-March 2010).
