About the Item
This vintage china service from the 1950s was made especially for Pan Am World Airways in Japan by Noritake. It was used on the iconic airline's trans-Atlantic flights in the 1950's, for First-Class passengers traveling from New York to London and Paris. Each piece is an off-white bone china, rimmed in 18-carat gold.
This collection is archetypal MCM in its design, and still projects an aura of what the Golden Age of jet travel was like. Each piece is in mint condition! A rare and treasured find, indeed, with an ample number of pieces for a dinner service of eight.
The set includes:
10 cream soup bowls -- 4.75"Diam x 1.75"T
5 multi-use bowls -- 5.25"Diam x 2"T
16 salad and desert plates -- 6"Diam
8 dinner plates -- 8.75"Diam
12 coffee/tea cups and saucers -- Cups: 3.25"Diam x 2"T; Saucers: 5"Diam
18 monogrammed napkins -- Large @ 15'' x 22" each
Pan Am World Airways was the unofficial overseas carrier for the US for much of the 20th Century, and especially during the glam era of jet travel in the 1950s and 1960s.
