About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique James II sterling silver Trefid Rat Tail pattern spoons; an addition to our silver cutlery collection. These exceptional antique 17th century sterling silver spoons have been crafted in the Trefid Rat Tail pattern. The anterior surface of each silver spoon handle terminal is plain and unembellished. The reverse surfaces of the Trefid-shaped terminals feature the contemporary engraved initials 'MTM'. The reverse of each impressive example of antique flatware features a scroll decorated rat tail to the rounded bowl. Note: After surviving the Great Fire of London the records at the London Assay office were destroyed by fire in 1681; their catalogues and documentation began again in 1697. Due to this unfortunate event we are unable to associate a maker to these spoons. Condition These antique James II silver Trefid spoons are an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and are in excellent condition. The British hallmarks struck to the reverse of each spoon have wear in keeping with age and location. An exceptional, fine and impressive set of six antique George IV English sterling silver Fiddle pattern tradesman spoons; an addition to our silver flatware collection These exceptional and rare antique George IV English sterling silver tradesman/sample spoons* have been crafted in the Fiddle pattern. The anterior surface of each spoon handle terminal incorporates the contemporary engraved initial 'MAG'. The reverse of each 19th century spoon has a rounded heel and to a pip to the handle terminal. By virtue of their size these versatile silver spoons could be used for a multitude of functions, including: pickle, mustard/condiment, small coffee spoon. These exceptional and collectable spoons were crafted by the renowned London silversmith William Eaton. NOTE: * Such a spoon would have been carried by a tradesman as a sample size, demonstrating at a small scale the pattern and quality of spoon available for production by the workshop. Condition These antique silver tradesman spoons are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each handle are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
