About the Item

Charming small Cathrineholm cereal bowl with blue on blue lotus design. Very good condition overall with one very small scratch and two nicks to base of interior, as shown in photos. Perfect for cereal, fruit a sauce or striking decor. Cathrineholm was not a woman's name but was the factory based in Halden, Norway. It started as an iron works around 1827, before transitioning to the more modern enamelware in 1907. The most popular line, the midcentury "Magical Lotus" series was introduced in the 1960s. The factory eventually closed down around 1972. The primary artist behind Cathrineholm’s lotus enamelware was Grete Prytz Kittelsen. She designed the dish forms and colors, and Arne Clausen designed the iconic lotus leaf that the factory added to them. “White as porcelain—harder than steel!” said one advertisement.
