About the Item

Just Andersen, three bottle coasters, model 2620. Three small round bottle coasters in pewter, engraved with scenes from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, including Ole Lukøje (The Sandman) and The Emperor’s New Clothes. Stamped: Just / Denmark / 2620 Maker: Just Andersen, Denmark Model: 2620 Period: ca. 1930s–1940s Material: Pewter (Disko metal) Condition: Age-related wear Dimensions: D 8 cm Just Andersen (1884–1943) was one of Denmark’s most prominent designers in the first half of the 20th century. He worked primarily in pewter and Disko metal, a material of his own invention, creating a wide range of functional and decorative objects characterized by simplicity and strength of form. These bottle coasters stand out through their motifs inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales – here with iconic figures from The Sandman and The Emperor’s New Clothes – thereby uniting Danish design history with literary heritage.
