About the Item
A beautiful antique silver cutlery set for 2 people, made by the Belgian silversmith Wolfers Brussels. This set is great to use for a luxurious and extensive romantic dinner for 2 people, because there is a cutlery set available for every course.
The set consists of the following:
4 table knives
4 table forks
2 fish forks
2 fish knives
2 lobster forks
2 oyster forks
2 starter knives
2 starter forks
2 starter spoons
2 ice cream spoons
2 dessert knives
2 dessert forks
2 dessert spoons
2 teaspoons
As you can see, there are two of everything, except for the table knives and table forks, of which there are four. We think this was done so that two main courses can be served in one menu.
The cutlery is provided with monograms, most parts with only the letter M, but some parts with the letters MD. We think this refers to a man and a woman, so the man's surname starts with the letter M and the woman's surname starts with a D.
The cutlery comes in an original Wolfers cassette, which is completely custom-made for this cutlery. Here too, executed with great attention to detail, each part has a precisely fitting spot. And the bottom of the removable tray is padded, so that the underlying cutlery remains protected.
Wolfers was a well-loved brand in Europe, known for its excellent quality. Especially in the Art Nouveau period, they were leading with their designs and technique.
Works from this period can also be found in museum collections.
The quality of this set is truly beautiful, you feel it immediately when you have the cutlery in your hands. It is refined and beautifully designed.
The silver content is 835. All parts are marked and also provided with the Wolfers mark.
The set is in good condition. The silver is nicely intact and has a nice color and shine.
The cassette also looks good, only the top of the lid is damaged, see photo.
