An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Dutch silver straight flatware service for eight persons; an addition to our canteen of cutlery collection. The pieces of this exceptional antique Dutch silver canteen of cutlery for 8 persons have been crafted in a plain rounded form, reflecting the Classic Old English pattern. The anterior surface of each fork and spoon handle features a pip to the terminal. This canteen of cutlery for 8 consists of 40 pieces: Basic service: Eight table forks Eight table spoons Eight dessert forks Eight dessert spoons Additional pieces: Pair of serving spoons Pair of serving ladles Pair of sauce ladles Soup ladle Serving fork The Dutch hallmarks struck to the dessert service and majority of the ladles include: Maker's mark: GZ - Gerritsen N.V. Ned. Silver quality/purity mark: Lion Passant mark with 2nd standard purity .833, 833/1000. This book examines the life and career of Roger Vivier who was known as “the Fabergé of Footwear” He designed extravagant, richly decorated shoes that he described as sculptures. He is credited with the design of the first platform shoe in 1937 and the first stiletto heel in 1954. Ava Gardner, Gloria Guinness and The Beatles were all Vivier customers, and he designed shoes for Queen Elizabeth II for her coronation in 1953.Vivier also designed shoes for house Christian Dior from 1953 to 1963. In addition to the stiletto heel, he also experimented with other shapes, including the comma.
