About the Item

This incredible early 19th century porcelain tea and coffee service with six matching cups and saucers is still in the original fitted wooden box. Each piece is individually hand-painted over raised and molded decoration. The handles all depict a piece of coral applied to each piece. The lids all are topped with applied fruit finials and the painting is quintessential Romanesque classical figures and landscapes. Each piece is further decorated with gold enamels. The quatrefoil-shaped sugar bowl is large and impressive as sugar was a rare and expensive commodity. A large sugar bowl indicated great wealth and is placed in a prominent position in the boxed display. It is 6.25" x 4.75" x 5" high. The cups are 4.5" across and 2.25" high. The saucers are 5 1/8" in diameter. The box is 24" x 19" x 6 1/2" high. This set is truly museum worthy!
