About the Item

An early Meissen porcelain teapot made circa 1715, decorated by a Dutch hausmaler circa 1730-1740. The teapot is decorated in a Kakiemon palette of turquoise, red, blue and yellow and enriched with gilding. The short, tapering spout and loop handle has flowerheads and stylized clouds. Each side of the body features exotic birds in flight to the left of flowering branches. There are beautifully painted flower-sprays throughout. The domed cover shows three small flowering branches about a band of radiating down-turned stiff leaves and red and gilt bud finial. Condition: Excellent. Minute chip to underside of spout measuring approximately 0.1 cm. Two chips to lid edge measuring 0.5 cm each. Dimensions: 4 7/8 in. H x 3 3/8 in.
