About the Item
Art Deco silver coffee and tea set, ca 1930. This set comprises four pieces: Coffeepot, teapot, creamer, and sugar. Each: Curved and lobed body; flat foot. Cover raised with lobed disc finial in stained wood. Handles made of same; pot and creamer handles are inverted-u and sugar handles mounted rectangles. Fully marked including 950 fineness stamp (Minerva head) and Emile Puiforcat and Jean Puiforcat maker’s stamps.
Dimensions: Coffeepot: H 6 1/2 x W 6 1/4 x D 4 1/2 in. Teapot: H 5 1/4 x W 7 x D 5 in. Creamer: H 3 1/4 x W 3 1/2 x D 2 1/4 in. Sugar: H 4 1/2 x W 4 1/4 x D 3 3/4 in. Total gross weight: 75.5 troy ounces.
With: Art Deco silverplated hot water urn, ca 1930. Oval gadrooned bowl with stepped cover and faceted rectilinear stained-wood finial in reeded silverplate mount; stained-wood horizontal bracket side handles with skyscraper mounts. Four stained-wood pillar supports with leaf mounts. Foot stepped. Heating element oval and gadrooned with hinged and domed cover. Spout hinged and faceted. A stylish synthesis of snazzy abstraction and natural material. Marked with Lyon maker’s stamp (Roux-Marquiand) and no. 60.
