About the Item

Georgian Regency hot water urn, ca 1820. Bellied bowl with half-gadrooning leaf-mounted and wrapped reeded bracket side handles; patera-mounted reeded horizontal spout with scallop-shell tap mounted to leaf-wrapped scrolls. Cover domed with pineapple finial. Knopped support and domed foot with gadrooned rim. Base square with leafing scroll-mounted corner paw supports. Rims gadrooned and interspersed with scallop shells. A sumptuous but practical vessel for hosting large receptions. It was made using the technique of cladding base metal in silver that was developed by Matthew Boulton and became known as Sheffield plate. Maker’s mark.
