About the Item

Pair of porcelain cups by Herend, model Candida Tupini Napoli Dish Ø cm 15 Herend porcelains are among the most prestigious and sought-after in the world. Made in Hungary since 1826, Herend is known for its exceptional quality, craftsmanship and unique design. Founded in 1826 by Vince Stingl in the village of Herend, Hungary, the manufactory quickly gained recognition for its exquisite porcelain creations. By the mid-19th century, Herend porcelain had gained international acclaim, receiving royal patronage from Queen Victoria and Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria. Herend porcelain is meticulously crafted using time-tested techniques passed down through generations of artisans. Each piece is handcrafted, hand-painted and enameled, ensuring a unique and beautiful piece of art. The factory uses a secret formula for its porcelain paste, resulting in a delicate but durable material. This manufacture features a wide variety of designs, from classic floral and geometric patterns to intricate figurative scenes and animal motifs. The manufacture also offers themed collections and special editions, ensuring that there is a piece for everyone. One of their most famous designs is the "Queen Victoria" pattern, created in 1851 after Queen Victoria commissioned a service decorated with butterflies and flowers.

Haviland Limoges Hand Painted Pair of Porcelain Cups Saucers, France 1894-1931
By Haviland Co.
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Set of 2 demitasse cups and 2 saucers was made by Haviland Cie in Limoges, France. The Art Deco style form of a footed cups, with 3 small ball feet, is rather rare and hard to find, especially in coffee or demitasse size. In this set the pieces were hand painted by a professional artist in a decorating studio with Victorian style motif of pink English roses. Calm light pink and green colors are accentuated by bright gold rims and gold trim on handles and ball feet; crisp white color of semi-translucent porcelain showcases the soft, delicate decor without overpowering it. The pieces are marked with green underglaze manufacturer mark Haviland France that dates to 1894-1931. The set is in very good antique condition with minimal wear on gold that is appropriate to its age. The advent of Arts and Craft Movement created the notion that the aesthetic quality of everyday utilitarian objects could be improved by merit of craftsmanship, and many painters and artists felt inspired to merge their activities into decorative arts, such as ceramics, decor objects, or dinnerware. Large number of wholesale and retail firms, such as Pickard, Stouffer, or Brauer studios, and many high-end department stores that carried factory decorated Limoges's porcelain, had their own china decorating departments and produced high quality hand painted porcelain. Undecorated Haviland china...
