19th Century Paul Storr Silver Tea Urn
Located in New Orleans, LA
This extraordinarily rare and masterfully crafted tea urn is by the hand of the master Georgian silversmith Paul Storr. Created by Storr while working for Rundell, Bridge and Rundell, Jewelers and Goldsmiths to the King, this magnificent piece truly represents the sophisticated style of the renowned firm and the enormous talents of Paul Storr. Applied and engraved decoration envelop this masterpiece equipped with a carved handle, lion's head spigot and spectacular lion's paw supports. The piece bears the arms of the Neave Baronetcy with those of Digby, for Sir Thomas Neave and his wife Frances Caroline, daughter of the Hon. William Digby, the Dean of Durham. Though he held no formal title, Storr enjoyed patronage from the most important and powerful figures of the period including King George III and the Prince of Wales, the future King George IV. His first major work was a gold font commissioned by the Duke of Portland in 1797, and in 1799 he created the “Battle of the Nile...

Pair of Patriotic American Eagle Teacups and Saucers, Circa 1840s
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is a beautifully matched pair of patriotic American eagle teacups and saucers from the 1840s. They are made of bone china with a thick cobalt blue top border design with gold stars, gold outer pinstripes, and a gold top rim edge. They feature a central patriotic American eagle with a red and white shield, clutching an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons. Fourteen tiny gold stars are positioned above the eagle's head. The eagle is both the national bird and the national animal of the United States. The founders of the United States were fond of comparing their new republic with the Roman Republic, in which eagle imagery, usually the golden eagle, was prominent. On June 20, 1782, the Continental Congress adopted the design for the Great Seal of the United States depicting a bald eagle grasping 13 arrows in its sinister (left) talon and an olive branch with its dexter (right) talons. Those arrows are tightly aligned, a symbol of "strength in unity" that's found in the traditional cultures everywhere, from the Romans to the Iroquois. In this case, the bundle of arrows were a nod to the unity of the original 13 colonies. The olive branches emphasize the power of peace. The eagle motif has since appeared in allegorical engravings...

Antique Purple Lustre Cup and Saucer Hand Painted in England, circa 1830
Located in Katonah, NY
We are pleased to offer this very special lustreware cup and saucer made in England, circa 1830. The cup and saucer both show a hand painted songbird perched in a tree with green leaves and grass on a purple ground. The colors purple and green are the colors which are most rare in lustreware! In addition to purple and green the painter used orange, gray, and yellow on the bird and the tree. The border is copper lustre. Background of Lustreware: Lustreware or Lusterware is pottery with a second glaze produced by metallic oxides painted over the glaze finish, which is then given a second firing at a lower temperature in a muffle kiln which excludes oxygen. Lustre technology probably began sometime between the 4th and 8th centuries AD. Lustre decoration was first used as a glass-painting technique. From there its use in pottery probably began in Málaga Spain which was the first center of lustred Hispano-Moresque ware. Eventually its use spread to the region of Valencia, and then to Italy, where it was used to enhance Renaissance Maiolica...
