About the Item

This 17 piece porcelain demitasse set was made by Vista Alegre of Portugal for Mottahedeh. The pieces have been finished in the heavily gilded Lowestoft Rose pattern which features a chinoiserie motif consisting of floral decoration executed in shades of red, pink and purple with green and teal foliage. The pattern also incorporates a variety of elaborate tapestries and detailed insects. The set is comprised of a lidded teapot, covered sugar bowl, cream jug and 6 demitasse cups and saucers. All of the pieces are marked for Vista Alegre and Mottahedeh. The cups stand 2.125" tall and are 2.235" in diameter at the mouth while the saucers are 4.5" in diameter. The sugar bowl is 4.25" tall and 6.125" as measured from the outside edges of its handles. The cream jug stands 3.25" tall and 5.5" from the back edge of its handle to the front of the spout. A striking and hard to find set in excellent condition.

This outstanding hand painted 19th century French ceramic charger was made by Hautin Boulenger & Cie at Creil & Montereau. The highly detailed Aesthetic Movement charger features polychrome decoration depicting a Japanese quail perched in a flowering cherry tree bearing vivid green foliage. The bird's gaze is fixed on a colorful butterfly with intricately patterned wings which is located off to one side. The image is set on a gilt ground which bears a series of repeating raised gilt motifs. The charger's shoulder is finished in cobalt blue with stylized gilt hearts separated by light blue floral and foliate elements. French Gilt Patinated Bronze Garniture with Applied Foliate/Floral Decoration

This exceptional late 19th century three-piece French garniture includes two footed urns and a low footed centerpiece bowl. The urns and bowl are composed of patinated bronze with ormolu mounts which include neoclassical mask detail and rest on square marble plinths with ormolu bases. The pieces have distinctive elongated handles at the sides which terminate in stylized pendant decoration. As seen in the accompanying photographs, the exterior of the urns and bowl feature applied bronze decoration in the form of ornate foliate swags with flowers. Please be sure to zoom in on the photos to better appreciate the detail of the cast decoration, it is impressive. The urns stand 15.75" tall as measured to the top of the rims.
