Adorned with iconic ‘whiplash’ curves and stylized floral motifs, this antique soup tureen exemplifies the elegance of late 19th and early 20th century European design. Art Nouveau, a movement of the late 19th century, featured flowing lines and organic forms that integrated art into everyday objects. In Germany and Austria, it was known as Jugendstil, emphasizing natural motifs, graceful curves, and the harmonious union of design and function.
The tureen is crafted from pewter and features a round form. Its sides are accented with shaped handles that echo the flowing, nature-inspired motifs on the body. The spreading circular base is decorated with a subtle linear pattern, directing attention upward to the more prominent designs above.
The tureen is topped with a lid featuring a linear design and moulded texture, inspired by natural forms, and finished with a shaped handle resembling a bow.
