About the Item

A 19th century French Napoleon III etched glass and brass rafraichissoir, or ice chest, on a black wrought iron stand. The rectangular wine cooler has a solid brass frame and with ball finials, curved handles and glass panels decorated with an etched grape vine and dot pattern. There is a drainage hole in the bottom with a turned beechwood plug, or stopper. The black painted wrought iron stand is from a later date but perfectly fits the glass chest. Circa 1880-1900. Overall dimensions: 39.25"H x 18"W x 11"D Wine cooler: 18"W x 8.5"D x 11"H
