About the Item
A very handsome and large German Art Nouveau period silvered alpaca wine cooler with ring handles and a horizontal frieze with rosette motifs. Orivit Company, circa 1905.
Orivit was a German Art Nouveau metalware company, founded in 1894, famous for its high-quality pewter, silver-plated, alpaca and bronze items, using unique alloys and innovative pressing techniques, with key designers like Hermann Gradl, until it faced financial collapse and was acquired by WMF in 1905, with WMF continuing the Orivit brand until 1914, producing distinctive Jugendstil pieces.
This particular piece is in very good condition and retains its original plating.
