About the Item
A Rare Pair of Georgian Mahogany Oval Brass-Bound Wine Coolers with Original Liners
Lion-Head Ring Handles C.1760
A superb and rare pair of Georgian mahogany wine coolers, exquisitely crafted and retaining their original full-depth lead liners. Each oval cooler features refined brass banding, lion mask ring handles, and graceful cabriole legs - all hallmarks of Georgian craftsmanship at its most accomplished. The deep, lustrous mahogany, enriched by its decorative brass trim, radiates a warmth and refinement that only age and skilled workmanship can produce. The main, solid mahogany body of these cellarettes, or wine coolers, has a decorative brass trim to the top, defining the top, and directly below this there is a deep brass banding. On opposite sides 2 cast brass lifting handles in the form of oval lion mask rings, adorn the main mahogany body. A further deep brass banding is placed above the apron which rests upon elegantly curved cabriole legs terminating with slightly turned under feet. The presence of both original liners, coupled with the fact that they remain a matched pair, elevates their rarity and desirability among discerning collectors.
These wine coolers or jardinières are a testament to exceptional craftsmanship and is a stunning example of early Georgian design, making it an ideal addition to any refined interior.
