A Rare Large Early 18th Century Norwegian Primitive Tankard in Birchwood
This museum-quality Scandinavian folk art tankard, dating to the early 1700s, is a remarkable example of early Norwegian craftsmanship. Handcrafted from solid birchwood, it features elegant hand-carved details including a Baroque-style ball finial and an elegant floral and pine tree motif on the lid.
After nearly three centuries, the tankard remains in impressively sound condition, displaying a superb patina and historically appropriate old repairs that testify to its longevity and careful preservation.
