About the Item
Extremely Rare Antique Icelandic Askur Jar with Lid (ca. 1800–1850s) – Museum-Quality Collectible
This exceptional Askur, a traditional Icelandic food storage container, is a rare and primitive folk art masterpiece from the early 19th century. Handcrafted from natural pine and ash wood, it features intricately carved patterns on its lid and a stunning rustic patina that reflects its age and historical use.
Askur containers of this age and craftsmanship are highly sought-after and seldom found in private collections—most surviving examples reside in prestigious museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Akureyri Museum, Skagafjörður Museum, and The National Museum of Iceland, etc.
