About the Item
This superb marble mosaic is a Roman original from the 3rd to 4th Century AD. It features a winged Eros, wearing a billowing cape, holding his bow in his outstretched right arm and a quiver strapped across his torso. He stands leaning backwards with his weight on his left leg, encircled by a foliate and beribboned fillet, bordered above and below with triangular band. The lively composition is made up of multi-coloured tesserae on a black ground, smoothed to an almost reflective surface. The whole of the panel is covered in a protective varnish and the entire composition is set in a concrete backing for ease of mounting. This exceptionally well preserved example would be a beautiful addition to any well appointed home or interior space.
