About the Item

From the bedroom of a Breton manor, this solid oak fire screen stands out for its finely carved decoration and its structure with four uprights topped by small turned finials in the shape of acorns. The upper section features an openwork, radiating motif, characteristic of late 19th-century Breton craftsmanship. The front is adorned with a petit point tapestry, depicting a bouquet of flowers delicately framed within an ornamental cartouche. The shaped base (35 cm high) ensures stability, while the central frame (24 cm) highlights the refinement of the embroidery. It once decorated the elegant bedroom of a Breton manor, bringing both refinement and warmth to the interior. Condition note: The tapestry shows minor imperfections on the back, which do not affect the solidity or the aesthetic appeal of the piece. Both utilitarian and decorative, this fire screen reflects the bourgeois taste and regionalist spirit of a prestigious Breton home at the end of the 19th century.
