About the Item

Ngaady aMwaash Mask. African Antique Folk Art Kuba Mask, originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Property from a Private Collection. Acquired by a Norwegian Collector before 1960s (ca. 1954). Handcrafted / Hand-carved decorated with hand-painted pattern. Hand-carved from lightweight wood, featuring geometric patterns in red, black, and white pigments. The mask has a hollowed oval form with large coffee-bean eyes, high cheekbones, and multiple piercings, aged surface. In good condition with wear consistent with age, including minor loss of paint. A unique piece of folk art from the Kuba culture.
