A Pre-Columbian Chancay textile mask, originating from the central coast of Peru and dating to approximately 1000–1450 AD.
Chancay textile production is renowned for its technical sophistication, symbolic abstraction, and use of soft, earth-toned cottons. Masks of this type were commonly associated with funerary bundles, where they served as stylised human representations intended to accompany the deceased into the afterlife.
This example shows expected age-related wear consistent with burial textiles from the dry Peruvian coastal environment. It has been professionally conserved and is now presented in a bespoke, museum-quality box frame, allowing for long-term preservation and elegant display.
