About the Item

Pre-Columbian Nazca Polychrome Bowl South Coast Peru, Nazca Culture, c. 200–600 AD A fine hand-coiled pottery bowl decorated in classic Nazca polychrome pigments—cream, black, red, and brown—applied over a smooth burnished surface. The exterior features a boldly painted mythical zoomorphic figure, likely a feline or composite supernatural being, rendered with large expressive eyes, extended tongue, and patterned headdress elements characteristic of Nazca ritual iconography. The design displays the typical strong outlines and flat color fields associated with early- to middle-phase Nazca ceramics. The bowl exhibits the traditional rounded form with high domed shoulder and gently curved walls. Pigments remain strong, with expected areas of surface wear consistent with age and burial. A good example of Nazca ceramic painting, notable for its lively execution and well-preserved colour. Dimensions: H 18 x W 10 cm , 7 x 4 inches Condition: Minor surface rubbing ; 2 fragments reattached no restorations An exceptional piece for collectors of Pre-Columbian art, Andean archaeology, or early ceremonial objects.
