1950s U-Pop-It Popcorn Machine

About the Item

The 1950s U-Pop-It Popcorn coin-op machine was a fun and entertaining vending machine popular in mid-century arcades, county fairs, picnic grounds, and more. For just ten cents, the U-Pop-It produces an individual bag of hot and fresh popcorn! This is a fully-functional machine, complete with its original salt shaker and trash bin, which are often missing! The U-Pop-It would look great in a home theater, or could boost morale at the office. Before You Pop When you first look at the machine, you will notice a container on the upper left, and a container on the upper right. The left container houses the oil, while the right container house the popcorn kernels, which can be seen through the see-through glass section. The white section of the machine swings open to give you access to the inner workings, and once that door is open the top comes off so you can easily refill both the kernels and the oil. There is also a door in the back of the machine. We use coconut oil in the machine. We leave it unplugged, and once we plug it in we give the machine about 20 minutes to heat up the oil before we pop a bag. It can be left plugged in if you want the machine to be ready to pop. On the bottom left is a dispenser that holds the popcorn bags, and the black box on the right is the salt shaker. Press down on the white knob to release the salt. It is very rare to see U-Pop-Its with the salt dispenser attached. Take a bag and place it in the cone. Now you are ready to pop! Time to Pop Once the bag is in place, you are ready to begin your popcorn experience. Insert a dime, and the light turns on. On the left of the metal dispenser where it says U-Pop-It is a transparent tube. After about fifteen seconds, you will begin to see the oil move through the tube and into the vat. It will then heat to the proper temperature for a little over a minute. After a minute and a half, the vat opens and the popcorn kernel cup dispenses the proper portion for one bag of popcorn! The legs of the vat begin to gently rock the vat back and forth. Forty-five seconds later, you will hear the popcorn beginning to pop! Thirty seconds later, the popcorn vat moves to a diagonal position to release the popcorn into the bag, and voila! a hot, fresh bag of delicious popcorn!
