This Dutch Delft bowl, made circa 1880, reflects the enduring charm of late 19th-century tin-glazed pottery.
Its decoration was created using hand-applied color over a transfer outline, a technique widely embraced in the Delft industry at this time.
The floral motif is lively and stylized, with yellow and blue blossoms rising among russet fronds and bright green leaves.
The rim is encircled by a band of diagonal manganese hatching framed by crisp cobalt lines, while the interior features a playful scattering of scrolling manganese flourishes, adding a note of spontaneity to the otherwise orderly design.
The bowl’s broad, flaring form and raised foot reflect traditional Dutch shapes that continued well into the 19th century, adapted for everyday use yet still carrying the visual language of earlier Delftware.
The surface remains appealing, with only light scratches and very small chips attesting to its age and utility.
