Nicolas Quezada was the younger brother of Juan Quezada, the artist who first taught himself to make earthenware in the style of the long-dead Paquime culture, developing the new Mata Ortiz pottery style in the 1970s.
Nicolas learned by watching his brother, and over the years, emerged as a Master Potter in his own right. He is now considered to be among one of the top four potters of Mata Ortiz. Nicolas had an unending enthusiasm for working with the clay, and his inventiveness and innovation were unparalleled. He was specifically known for his innovations such as effigy pots and large bowls.
Nicolas Quezada's work is discussed on pages 160 - 163 of the book, The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz and his work appears in the permanent collections of major US museums.
