About the Item

Iconic goblet, vase hand-painted with abstract décor in shades of white, blue, yellow, and red, outlined with black lines. The result is an almost architectural effect, characteristic of Capron’s modernist and decorative style. A highly collectible piece, perfect as a centerpiece, a small vase, or a sculptural decorative object. Signed. Roger Capron studied applied arts in Paris then moved to Vallauris in 1946 where he founded a ceramics workshop, contributing to the local renaissance of ceramics. In 1952, he purchased an abandoned pottery and opened a small ceramics factory, with 15 workers. During that period, he came across Pablo Picasso who was producing ceramics in Vallauris and the two artists influenced each other. By 1957 he had established a considerable international reputation.
