American Pop art sculptor Robin Antar has been called “Brooklyn’s answer to Andy Warhol.” She brings Pop art to stone, carving iconic American food and designer clothing with her distinct brand of hyperrealism.
Robin Antar began sculpting in 1974 and had already paid her dues in sweat and stone dust before receiving a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1981. Her artistic path parallels the American art world’s evolution from Abstract Expressionism to Pop art: she began creating abstract works that were deeply rooted in her emotions before turning to realism in 1998. Her “Realism in Stone” series soon gained notoriety and she began getting commissions to carve replicas of products for national and international companies such as Dr. Martens, Stella Artois...
