Ditidaht/Nuu-Chah-Nulth Totem By Raymond Williams
Located in Coeur d Alene, ID
Chief Shakes Raven pole by Ditidaht/Nuu-chah-nulth artist Raymond Williams. This finely crafted model totem pole is by Ditidaht/Nuu-chah-nulth master carver Raymond Williams, the father of the current generation of Williams carvers. It depicts an iteration of the Tlingit Chief Shakes pole of Wrangell, Alaska – a popular motif for the Williams family. The top figure is Raven’s Grandfather, who perched on the Box of Daylight. The middle figure is Raven, and below is frog. This model illustrates how Raven stole the sun, moon, and stars and released them into the world. This pole was probably made for Ye Olde Curiosity Shop in the 1950s. 27" PERIOD: 1950s ORIGIN: Seattle/Williams Family SIZE: 27"H Family Owned & Operated Cisco’s Gallery deals in the rare, exceptional, and one-of-a-kind pieces that define the history of America and the Old West. Circa 1900 Salish Totem
Located in Coeur d Alene, ID
This old model Salish pole dates to around 1900 and was sold out of the Hudson Bay Fur Trading Co. in Seattle, WA. The pole depicts an inverted killer whale, although the identities of the other figures are unclear. There is a formline human face in profile carved in relief and painted on the front of the base. A rather unusual feature of this pole is the inlaid glass beads in the eyes of the figures and blowhole of the whale. Early model poles sometimes incorporated new, non-traditional materials into their work. A highly unusual and early pole. Northwest Coast cedar totem with original Hudson Bay sticker. Patinated with cabin smoke. 15" PERIOD: Circa 1900 ORIGIN: Northwest Coast SIZE: 15" Family Owned & Operated Cisco’s Gallery deals in the rare, exceptional, and one-of-a-kind pieces that define the history of America and the Old West. Antique and Vintage Native American Objects

As part of thoughtful home decor, antique and vintage Native American objects — works created by Native American artists and artisans — can bring rich textures and colors into a space.

Art collecting can be done in a socially and environmentally conscious way that reinvests in local communities. Tribal art is traditionally crafted with earth-friendly materials that respect the environment.

Textiles have long been objects of art and utility for Native Americans. Traditional weaving techniques involve material made from plant and animal fibers. Different tribes have woven distinctive patterns and colors into blankets, rugs and garments, such as the vibrant geometric shapes woven from wool by the Navajo.

After metal and glass beads were introduced to North America by Europeans, they became a popular form of art. Intricate beading appears on clothing, jewelry and other objects. Beadwork not only looks stunning, but it is also deeply emblematic of Native American ethnicity and can be used to pass stories handed down from generation to generation. Beaded garments have often been commissioned for important events like weddings, dances and celebrations.

Native Americans initially created pottery out of necessity to carry water and store food. For centuries, artists have decorated jugs, vases and other vessels, from designs etched into clay to experimentation with firing methods for unique finishes.

Find a diverse collection of colorful and culturally enriching antique and vintage Native American decorative items, objects and much more on 1stDibs.
