About the Item
Massive Five Foot Tall Navajo Kachina Doll is signed "by GUY V.Y." on the base, and titled "Eagle Dance" Guy Yazzie and his wife Pearl Zonnie Chee Horseherder Yazzie had at least 8-children and some tell of 12-children. The family lived on a Navajo Reservation in Howell Mesa, Arizona. The Eagle Dancer Kachina Doll, referred to as Kwahu, is a sacred figure in Indian culture. The Eagle Dancer represents strength, power, and is the link between the spiritual world and humans. Eagle Dancers are often featured in the Eagle Dance, a prayer for good crops and rain. There are no eagle feathers used to make this huge Kachina Doll and although a great decorative piece of American Indian art, it is far from any masterpiece. Over the years this Kachina Doll has seen its fair share of restorations and repairs. We would classify this very large 5-foot tall Kachina Doll as “great decorative art”, without breaking the bank.

Antique Huge Italian Olive Oil Jar or Amphora Great Color Italian Late 1800
s
Located in Chicago, IL
Not all antique Italian glazed Olive Oil Jars or Vases are created equal and this particular Olive Oil jar’s colors are simply beyond spectacular. Dating from the late 1800’s and discovered in a field in the south of Italy by an old friend. Most people refer to these as amphora jars, beginning in the Neolithic Period and running from approximately 9000BC to 3500BC. Generally, Amphorae were used in large numbers to transport Olive Oil and Wine. The design trade and most antique dealers simply call these vessels or Olive Oil Jars. For us, we look at the Olive Oil Jars as pieces of sculpture and they are as good looking outdoors as they are in your home. The color palette and the sheen of the glaze they are simply magical and create a truly great focal point. When we started in the antique business...

Large Signed Native American Hopi Original Mudhead Kachina Katsina Doll on Stand
By Native American Art
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderfully handcrafted/detailed and decorated Native American Hopi Mudhead Kachina doll. Quite an unusually large work. A striking piece overall. Hand painted with leather and possibly turquoise (necklace) accompaniment.
Hopi katsina figures, also known as kachina dolls, are figures carved, typically from cottonwood root by the Hopi people. Initially, kachina dolls were made to instruct young girls and new brides about katsinas or katsinam, the immortal beings that bring rain, control other aspects of the natural world and society, and act as messengers between humans and the spirit world. The Mudhead or Koyemsi figure is viewed as a clown/joker figure who is responsible for laughter and entertainment at Hopi dances and ceremonial events. He plays drums and games to keep his audience engaged.
The piece is signed by the artist under the base.

Large Folk Art Outsider Art TOTEM 42"H
Located in Coeur d
Alene, ID
This massive TOTEM pole is an incredible example of outsider Folk Art. The pole was carved by Lair Forster in Ottawa in 1938 and is an eccentric interpretation of one of the iconic Thunderbird TOTEM Poles of Alert Bay. The painting on the wings is bold in yellow and red, and the designs are fascinating and recall modernist paintings of the period. The eyes of the thunderbird...
