About the Item

Wonderful small size tabletop paint decorated lock box. Depicts eagle with American flag shield. Banner in mouth(probably original owner or painter). Probably made for the centennial in 1876. Top with painted floral design, sides with cast iron handles. Box was originally screwed down(4 holed on bottom) with original lock intact. Interior with “skull” and “poison” stickers on original painted surface. Great antique valuables box.

The domed lid features an oval black tin handle, and the front of lid retains the front portion of its original latch. This example displays the warmth and character typical of the 19th century decorative tinware, where utilitarian household objects were elevated through hand-painted embellishment.
