About the Item

Primitively decorated/painted bridal chest from Germany, specifically from the Swabian Alps. The chest has a very rustic appearance and displays plenty of character. Considering its age, this chest is in good condition, though there are naturally some minor signs of wear. For example, there are sporadic signs of old woodworm, which have naturally been checked again. The chest has a well-functioning lock and key. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, which was only rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. This example dates from 1737. 76 cm high, 148 cm wide, 65 cm deep.
