About the Item
Beautiful painted bridal chest from Germany, specifically from the Swabian Alps. The chest is painted in a grayish-blue color and features floral decorations on the front panel. This old paint is quite worn and weathered, giving it a rustic and characteristic look. It was once customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. This example dates from 1825/1850.
