About the Item

A fine antique folk art miniature chair. In painted and stenciled softwood. (Possibly poplar). With turned legs supporting a round plank seat, bentwood back, and shaped splat. Painted in black paint with gold highlights, a red stenciled bird flowers, and gold stenciling to the seat. Most of the stenciling to the seat is now worn away. It retains traces of what was likely wreath or starburst rays around its edge, a full alphabet to the center, and A GOOD CHILD to the front. Repairs noted to the splat and re-glues noted securing the back and plank seat. Found in Virginia. Simply a wonderful antique miniature child's or doll's chair! Date: 19th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: We noted repairs to the plank seat and the splat. The splat has been ended out with an addition to the upper left and lower right sections. The plank seat has been reglued. The back (and splat presumably as well) have been re-glued in the seat as well. There is noticeable wear to the original stenciling, some spots of visible wear to the paint, some some fine light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
